The FineRegistration application uses the otbFineRegistrationImageFilter from otb C++ library. You can read the source code for that filter, which has a bit more documentation in comments: maybe that help you out ?

Hi,

This application computes a disparity map between image 1 and image 2,
i.e. the shift (in pixels) between the pixels of the two images. For
each pixel p1 of image 1 the algorithm will search in image 2 which
pixel p2 in the neighborhood of p1 is the "closest" to p1. The size of
this (rectangular) neighoborhood is determined by the erx and ery
parameters (respectively in x and y).

To determine how "close" two pixels are, a metric is computed on
rectangular patches around the two pixels (for example cross
correlation, this is a parameter of the application), the size of these
patches is determined by the parameters mrx and mry (size in x and y).
This metric is computed for all pixels in the neigborhood, and the
corresponding shift is then deduced by finding the extremum of the metric.

Hi,

I think there is a bug in the application. As the disparity map file
(FineRegistration.tif) is needed to compute the ouput warped image, the
application checks that the file exists, but it does that before
writting it, thus producing an error.

I opened an issue on OTB's gitlab (
https://gitlab.orfeo-toolbox.org/orfeotoolbox/otb/issues/1652 )

In the meantime, if you want to use the application, you can run it two
times, one time without warping to create the disparity map file and
then with the warping option activated (the disparity map will be
computed two times, but it should work, I hope that it is not too
computationally expensive for you ...)

Hi Noura,

It works fine on my computer, can you give me the exact commands that
you are using ?

Do you have the right to write FineRegistration.tif where you are trying
to write it ? This GDAL error might appear if you are trying to create a
file in a folder that doesn't exist/ where you don't have writing rights.

the first command is :
"otbcli_FineRegistration -ref INSEASON_NDVI1*.*tif -sec INSEASON_NDVI2*.*tif
*-*out FineRegistration.tif -erx 2 -ery 2 -mrx 3 -mry 3 , it works and it
gives a disparity map " FineRegistration.tif" . the second is :
"otbcli_FineRegistration -ref INSEASON_NDVI1*.*tif -sec INSEASON_NDVI2*.*tif
*-*out FineRegistration.tif -erx 2 -ery 2 -mrx 3 -mry 3 -w INSEASON_NDVI2
*.*tif -wo result.tif"

Hi Noura,
It works fine on my computer, can you give me the exact commands that you
are using ?
Do you have the right to write FineRegistration.tif where you are trying
to write it ? This GDAL error might appear if you are trying to create a
file in a folder that doesn't exist/ where you don't have writing rights.
Cédric
Thank you Cédric ,
I tried to run it two times as you described , but it does'nt work , the
No such file or directory
2018-06-28 11:16:30 (FATAL): itk::ERROR: GDALImageIO(0x116e1e0): Attempt
to create new tiff file `FineRegistration.tif' failed: No such file or
directory"
realy i need it urgently , if you have any idea , please tell me .
thank you very much for all

Hi,
I think there is a bug in the application. As the disparity map file
(FineRegistration.tif) is needed to compute the ouput warped image, the
application checks that the file exists, but it does that before writting
it, thus producing an error.
I opened an issue on OTB's gitlab ( https://gitlab.orfeo-toolbox.o
rg/orfeotoolbox/otb/issues/1652 )
In the meantime, if you want to use the application, you can run it two
times, one time without warping to create the disparity map file and then
with the warping option activated (the disparity map will be computed two
times, but it should work, I hope that it is not too computationally
expensive for you ...)
Cédric
Hi Cédric ,
I'm tried to applicate this function and it works when i didn't use
-w(Image to warp) and -wo(image warped ) parameters , it returns a
disparity map , but in my case , it's important to registrate maps usings
this disparity map ,
so I Added these options but it qoes'nt work .
"otbcli_FineRegistration -ref 100034819_InseasonNDVI_20150412_TAPshapebox.tif
-sec 100034819_InseasonNDVI_20150428_TAPshapebox.tif -out
FineRegistration.tif -erx 2 -ery 2 -mrx 2 -mry 2
-w100034819_InseasonNDVI_20150428_TAPshapebox.tif -wo result.tif "
Runtime Error : Cannot open image FineRegistration.tif. The file does not
exist.(FineRegistration.tif is the disparity map )

Hi everyone ,
I've just discovered the OTB library, and I had some difficulties in
understanding some parameters of the fine registration , can any one
explain me please , what erx, ery, mrx and mry refer to exactly ?
thank you .

Hi cédric ,
it works in my computer , I have some questions :
x offset and y offset are represented by wich unit exctly?
I got a warped map, but I thought that the whole map will be shifted
according to a position , but I got a map with some change in some pixels
(for example , in the warped map some pixels'value became 'no data' as in
the original map they have values(0.25,0.28,..) ) , and other pixels aren't
changed ) , i didn't understand how the registration is done ?
thank you
